Tongue Splitting?

Tongue bifurcation, or tongue splitting, is a type of body modification in which the tongue is cut centrally from its tip part of the way towards its base, forking the end. In addition to being covered under laws prohibiting the unlicensed practice of medicine, tongue splitting is now banned in the U.S. military. Thus, by necessity, it is an underground practice (in the USA). The issue of tongue splitting has also divided bioethicists. Okay uhm, if it’s technically illegal and its awfully gruesome then why would you do this? Body modifications can only go so far before becoming absolutely disgusting. I can understand being yourself and standing out in a crowd, but really splitting your tongue isn’t the way to go; it just makes you look like a reptile of some sort or a just a freak. I know I say that ignore those who think what you’re doing to your body is weird but I mean really come on, cutting your tongue in half is plain ridiculous. The procedure is even more painful and gross then what the ending product looks like. In most cases, the split is created through scalpeling. To achieve a more rounded and natural look, the upper and lower part of the cutting area in both halves are often sutured together with stitches during the healing process. This prevents sharp, unnatural looking edges on the new "tongues" which would otherwise occur. Before splitting, some have a relatively thick tongue piercing where the base of the split is supposed to be, and wait until this is fully healed before going through the procedure, but the stretched piercing location will usually result in a visually different tissue than the sutured area. Healing of the tongue takes approximately 1–2 weeks and during this time, the person may be unable to eat their normal diet or talk clearly. Tongue bifurcation is, however, not necessarily a surgical procedure. Self modifiers often choose to achieve a split by gradually tightening nylon bindings inserted through an existing tongue piercing over a long period of time. This method is long, arduous, and requires a high pain tolerance. Tongue splitting is reversible but the reversal is even more painful than the tongue splitting procedure. This is reason enough to not even thinking about getting this done. Plus, what person in their right mind would want to date someone with two tongues? It’s just flat out creepy and they’d probably run for the hills if you tried to kiss them. I mean look at the Lizardman, he’s probably never going to be accepted into society and will probably never find someone that would actually want to date him because he’s so scary looking. So basically if you want this done your going to have to sit there with probably nothing to numb the pain and let them slice your tongue in half with a razor blade. This is VERY dangerous because there is a high chance that you could actually bleed to death and that’s never pleasant.

Piercings Aren't That Bad.

Body piercings are a form of body modification in which a part of the human body is punctured or cut, creating an opening where jewelry may be worn. The reasons for piercing or not piercing are varied. Some people pierce for religious or spiritual reasons, while others pierce for self-expression, aesthetic value, or to conform to their culture or to rebel against it. Some forms of piercing remain controversial, particularly when applied to youth. The display or placements of piercings have been restricted by schools, employers and religious groups. My opinion on piercings is that they aren’t the absolute worst thing you could do to your body, so why are they looked down upon except for the mainstream ear piercings? For people to be discriminated by this is very ridiculous for the reason that almost every person has a one. Just because someone has a metal rod going through there lip or nose doesn’t mean that they should be looked down upon because they have more than just their ears done. I mean really, I understand that for certain jobs they have to cover up piercings if they’re on the face or something for health risks and such, though. All around piercings are a less frightening way to express yourself and not really that permanent. In some cases getting pierced is fun; it can change your whole look. It’s the way you wear them that determines if they are attractive on you or not. Sometimes people will get outrageous piercings and the outcome can be brutal and it’ll just not turn out very well. Also, when you do get pierced make sure and take care of it. You should clean them and make sure they don’t get infected; DO WHAT THE PIERCER TELLS YOU TO DO! Just don’t go off and do your own thing, you have to make sure you take of them or else you’ll end up either having to take them out or it’ll look really weird. In most cases piercings are the most common body modification and will continue to because well you won’t be stuck with them the rest of your life; you can take them out whenever you please. Just watch out because sometimes when you take them out too early and plan on putting them back in, it doesn’t work because the skin will grow back really fast and that just sucks. If you want a piercing be responsible and take care of it or else you really don’t need one. Now sometimes piercings can get to be addictive and you just want to get more and more, but you need to know your limits because a face or body full of metal is SO not attractive and then you actually will scare a lot of people. Just know that sometimes you have to ignore the wanting for more piercings unless you don’t have that many. But again, piercings aren’t that bad. They’re just like any other body modification but the public is more comfortable with them.

Implants = Freaky?

In body modification, an implant is a device placed under skin for decorative purposes. Implants and beading involve placing an object or objects under the skin to mold or shape the skin outwardly for a particular appearance. Such implants may be subdermal or transdermal. In the context of body modification, some may consider injections of silicone and other substances a type of implant as well. Some types of implants may be performed by doctor or other medical professionals, while others are performed by body modification artists. Personally, I think implants are a little over the extreme and are in some cases weird. I can totally understand body modifications to stand out, but this; this seems to be a little too much. Really, why would someone want this under their skin? In some cases they don’t even use an aesthetic while putting these implants under your skin. Yes, these implants can be decorative and pretty neat, but in other cases they can be really really weird and freaky. No one can take you seriously with this underneath your skin and it looks kind of gross. This isn’t in anyway supposed to offend someone with this body modification; this is my own opinion on this matter.  If you think putting implants or silicone under your skin is something you want to do, then do it, but to other people it looks disgusting and creepy. You must realize this so you will know not to get offended if someone gives you an odd look or make a judgmental comment that might be hurtful towards you. Implants are something that you need to think about before getting because they can ultimately change your life socially and physically. There are different types of implants including clavicle or collarbone piercings,  deep chest piercings, eyeball implants, flesh stapling, flesh plating and pocketing, genital beading and genital ribs, horn implants, magnetic implants, scrotal implants, subdermal implants, surface piercings, and transdermal implants; now none of that sounds pleasant. You might think these things are cool now, but you don’t realize how painful they may be and that can definitely change your mind. Sometimes less disgusting modifications are the way to go because they can be less painful and they look better. But of course you need to be open minded to the idea of implants but it’s hard for a lot of people to do that when it looks so unappealing. No matter if you want to or not people are absolutely going to think that you are a freak if you have these.

Stretching or Gauging.

Stretching also called gauging, is a form of body modifications that is the deliberate expansion of a healed hole in the skin for the purpose of wearing gauged body jewelry.  Ear piercings are the most commonly stretched with septum, tongue, and lip piercings following close behind. This type of body modification is for those who want to go to the extreme. Stretching originated in Asian, African, and South Pacific cultures for decorative purposes. Tribes such as the Thai hill tribe stretched earlobes for both men and women. Gauging is often looked down upon in modern day society; this is why you must be able to take the consequences if you choose to do this. Also, you must realize that this modification is more than likely to be permanent, depending on what size you’re at. Most people must have an I-don’t-give-a-fuck attitude if they are willing to stretch their skin. Personally I think this type of bod mod is actually very cool, and full of self-expression. Gauging is mainly a personal ritual of turning into an individual. Some people that may see this will think you’re a freak or something, but they’ll just have to get over it. The one thing to watch out for is “blowouts”; these will ruin the gauging process. A blowout is a simple tear of skin in which the fistula is pushed out through the back of the piercing by pressure, and can be very painful. In result, a buildup of scar tissue may be created, which will weaken the fistula and can make it harder to stretch in the future. This is why you have to be careful when stretching. You should wait around 1-3 months in between stretches to be completely safe. When you stretch to a larger size it’s a good idea to rub baby oil on the area that’s being stretched before its gauged. This way you can be confident that you won’t have any problems. Gauging is a popular epidemic that is spreading through the nation. More conservative people need to quit giving their dirty looks and snobby stares at these magnificent men and women who stretch because this is what they do. Now-a-day society is sickening with its cliques and close-minded people, what happened to the 70s and 80s of peace love and happiness? They’re gone with the rest of human kind’s reasonable brain cells. Everything is suit and tie, cutthroat business thinking, which has ruined any kind of fun. This is why people needs to except those who haven’t lost faith in who they really are, and aren’t afraid to show it. This is why they should be respected the most out of all social groups, because they aren’t afraid of what you think about them, and that I look up to. These people love living and do it the way they want to and don’t regret shit. They keep their head up, decorate their body, have fun, and don’t give two fucks. These people are better than any one of us in this world because they stay true to themselves.

Tats or Trash?

One of the most popular forms of body art, in the present times, tattoo can be described as a permanent marking on the body. In the art of tattooing, colored ink is inserted into the body, through the layers of skin. The result is a change of the skin pigment, whether for decorative purposes or otherwise. Undertaken since the prehistoric times, tattooing art is today practiced almost throughout the world. One can find a wide variety of tattoos being offered by the tattoo parlors, ranging from the abstractions to stylized designs. Most people think that tattoos are for hooligans or people who don’t want an actual job, but I can tell you this isn’t the case. Tattoos are about expressing yourself through the art you put on your skin; it’s all about what you love and memories. Tattooing is very addictive but with the right tattoo artist you'd never have to get them in moderation. Whenever you see some one walk down the street with tattoos all over them yeah you’re going to be a little intimidated but it’s nothing to bad mouth about. When you say that it’s trashy for someone to have these pieces of art on their skin, then you seriously need a reality check and your thrash talking some one’s self expression, and that just lame. This type of art should be respected and not looked down upon by society, but sadly it is. People just need to realize that some people are very strong about individuality and this is a great way to show it. The history of tattoos started over 5000 years ago and is as diverse as the people who wear them. People just need to stop being so close minded and get over tattoos because they certainly aren’t going away anytime soon. Through tattoos you can tell what interests the person, family history, what their passion is, ect. This art isn’t just something to put on your skin to freak your parents out; it’s to show your personality on the outside as well as the inside. There are now different types of tattoo ink; black light ink is one of the most recent and interesting ones. When put on the skin the naked eye cannot see it but when you’re in a black-lighted room it is clearly visible. Tattoo enthusiasts may refer to tattoos as "Ink", "Tats", "Art", "Pieces", or "Work"; and to the tattooists as "Artists". People should not fear tattoos; they should embrace them and have an opened mind about them. Because that’s really what self expression is about anyways; being open minded and not let anything or anyone stand in your way of doing what you want to do or of being happy. This type of body art should have respect and not be talked about with such foul attitudes. For some people getting tattooed actually makes them emotionally and physically happy to no end and that’s why they get so many; they just absolutely enjoy the creation of art on their skin.
