Tongue Splitting?
Tongue bifurcation, or tongue splitting, is a type of body modification in which the tongue is cut centrally from its tip part of the way towards its base, forking the end. In addition to being covered under laws prohibiting the unlicensed practice of medicine, tongue splitting is now banned in the U.S. military. Thus, by necessity, it is an underground practice (in the USA). The issue of tongue splitting has also divided bioethicists. Okay uhm, if it’s technically illegal and its awfully gruesome then why would you do this? Body modifications can only go so far before becoming absolutely disgusting. I can understand being yourself and standing out in a crowd, but really splitting your tongue isn’t the way to go; it just makes you look like a reptile of some sort or a just a freak. I know I say that ignore those who think what you’re doing to your body is weird but I mean really come on, cutting your tongue in half is plain ridiculous. The procedure is even more painful and gross then what the ending product looks like. In most cases, the split is created through scalpeling. To achieve a more rounded and natural look, the upper and lower part of the cutting area in both halves are often sutured together with stitches during the healing process. This prevents sharp, unnatural looking edges on the new "tongues" which would otherwise occur. Before splitting, some have a relatively thick tongue piercing where the base of the split is supposed to be, and wait until this is fully healed before going through the procedure, but the stretched piercing location will usually result in a visually different tissue than the sutured area. Healing of the tongue takes approximately 1–2 weeks and during this time, the person may be unable to eat their normal diet or talk clearly. Tongue bifurcation is, however, not necessarily a surgical procedure. Self modifiers often choose to achieve a split by gradually tightening nylon bindings inserted through an existing tongue piercing over a long period of time. This method is long, arduous, and requires a high pain tolerance. Tongue splitting is reversible but the reversal is even more painful than the tongue splitting procedure. This is reason enough to not even thinking about getting this done. Plus, what person in their right mind would want to date someone with two tongues? It’s just flat out creepy and they’d probably run for the hills if you tried to kiss them. I mean look at the Lizardman, he’s probably never going to be accepted into society and will probably never find someone that would actually want to date him because he’s so scary looking. So basically if you want this done your going to have to sit there with probably nothing to numb the pain and let them slice your tongue in half with a razor blade. This is VERY dangerous because there is a high chance that you could actually bleed to death and that’s never pleasant.

Piercings Aren't That Bad.
Body piercings are a form of body modification in which a part of the human body is punctured or cut, creating an opening where jewelry may be worn. The reasons for piercing or not piercing are varied. Some people pierce for religious or spiritual reasons, while others pierce for self-expression, aesthetic value, or to conform to their culture or to rebel against it. Some forms of piercing remain controversial, particularly when applied to youth. The display or placements of piercings have been restricted by schools, employers and religious groups. My opinion on piercings is that they aren’t the absolute worst thing you could do to your body, so why are they looked down upon except for the mainstream ear piercings? For people to be discriminated by this is very ridiculous for the reason that almost every person has a one. Just because someone has a metal rod going through there lip or nose doesn’t mean that they should be looked down upon because they have more than just their ears done. I mean really, I understand that for certain jobs they have to cover up piercings if they’re on the face or something for health risks and such, though. All around piercings are a less frightening way to express yourself and not really that permanent. In some cases getting pierced is fun; it can change your whole look. It’s the way you wear them that determines if they are attractive on you or not. Sometimes people will get outrageous piercings and the outcome can be brutal and it’ll just not turn out very well. Also, when you do get pierced make sure and take care of it. You should clean them and make sure they don’t get infected; DO WHAT THE PIERCER TELLS YOU TO DO! Just don’t go off and do your own thing, you have to make sure you take of them or else you’ll end up either having to take them out or it’ll look really weird. In most cases piercings are the most common body modification and will continue to because well you won’t be stuck with them the rest of your life; you can take them out whenever you please. Just watch out because sometimes when you take them out too early and plan on putting them back in, it doesn’t work because the skin will grow back really fast and that just sucks. If you want a piercing be responsible and take care of it or else you really don’t need one. Now sometimes piercings can get to be addictive and you just want to get more and more, but you need to know your limits because a face or body full of metal is SO not attractive and then you actually will scare a lot of people. Just know that sometimes you have to ignore the wanting for more piercings unless you don’t have that many. But again, piercings aren’t that bad. They’re just like any other body modification but the public is more comfortable with them.
